The Middle Third: Who I Work With And Why
Who I work with, why it matters, and how we work together.
I work with women in what I call the middle third.
The middle third is the thirty years between thirty and sixty. It's where the most important work in a woman's life can actually happen, because it's where she has, for the first time, the awareness, the autonomy, and the power to change the trajectory of her own life.
The first thirty years aren't usually like that. For most people, life happens to you. You're inside what you were handed. By the time you're thirty, the inheritance becomes visible. What to do with it becomes a question you can actually answer.
The middle third is when you answer it.
What that means in practice is room. Even if you spend the first half of your middle third getting it wrong, you still have fifteen years to get it right. Thirty isn't the end of anything. Forty isn't the end of anything. Sixty isn't either, though by sixty the women who haven't done the work begin to feel time more sharply than the women who have.
There are shadow periods at the edges. Twenty-five to thirty-five and fifty-five to sixty-five are the transitions. They overlap the middle third on either end, and they're often where the work first becomes possible. A woman who wakes up at twenty-five and sees what's coming can begin preparing. A woman who wakes up at fifty-five can still make substantial changes, and most do. My youngest client is twenty-five. My oldest is sixty-two. Both are inside the work.
There is always more time than the woman thinks there is.
But the middle third is where most of the work, for most women, happens.
